An electric fireplace answers the question a real hearth cannot: how do you get the fire without the chimney, the permit, the ash, or the wall being rebuilt. This one installs recessed or wall-mounted — recessed gives the flush, built-in line that reads as architecture; surface-mounting needs nothing but the fixings in the box. It is 50" wide, and a linear fireplace looks deliberate when it fills roughly two-thirds of the wall it sits on.
The flame is an LED effect that runs with or without the heater, so it works in July as easily as January. On heat it puts out 5,120 BTU. That is rated as supplemental heat for up to ~400 sq ft — enough to take the chill off a room that size, not a replacement for central heating, and we would rather say so than let you find out. Running cost is about 26¢/hour on high at 17¢/kWh.
Log / crystal set included — the ember bed is what stops a flame effect reading as a lit panel, and it is in the box rather than sold separately.
