WHY THIS ONE
A real three-dimensional flame, made of water vapour. Flush to the wall, or on it. 5,120 BTU when you want the heat.
An electric fireplace heater is bought for the wall it finishes, not the heat it makes. The heat is the part you use four months a year. This one installs freestanding — recessed gives the flush, built-in line that reads as architecture; surface-mounting needs nothing but the fixings in the box.
The flame here is water vapour lit from beneath, which is why it has depth from the side rather than looking painted on — and why you can put your hand through it. It needs topping up with water rather than fuel. On heat it puts out 5,120 BTU. That is rated as supplemental heat for up to ~400 sq ft — enough to take the chill off a room that size, not a replacement for central heating, and we would rather say so than let you find out. Running cost is about 26¢/hour on high at 17¢/kWh.
