WHY THIS ONE

An electric fireplace is bought for the wall it finishes, not the heat it makes. The heat is the part you use four months a year. This one installs freestanding — recessed gives the flush, built-in line that reads as architecture; surface-mounting needs nothing but the fixings in the box.
The flame is an LED effect that runs with or without the heater, so it works in July as easily as January. On heat it puts out 2,560 BTU. That is rated as supplemental heat for up to ~200 sq ft — enough to take the chill off a room that size, not a replacement for central heating, and we would rather say so than let you find out. Running cost is about 13¢/hour on high at 17¢/kWh.
Log / crystal set included — the ember bed is what stops a flame effect reading as a lit panel, and it is in the box rather than sold separately.
